Jack Hancher performs a number of Stephen Dodgson Etudes alongside works by Jose, Debussy, Mompou and Albeniz in his Barnes Music Festival lunchtime guitar recital.
Described by Gendai Guitar Magazine as a “poet and a painter, colouring sounds out of the guitar as if his imagination and the guitar were one”, Hancher made his Wigmore Hall debut in 2018 and won the prestigious Gold Medal of the Royal Overseas League Competition in 2022, becoming just the third guitarist to do so.
Stephen Dodgson, although a prolific composer across everything from large-scale orchestral works to choirs and chamber ensembles, became particularly known and valued for his compositions for guitar including a number of partitas and studies, alongside two concertos and several works for massed guitars. And this solo guitar recital invites us into an intimate space with the most intimate of instruments.
